Directors Research Task

Jonathon Dayton & Valerie Faris:

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are a team of American music video directors who is of which husband and wife. They have achieved a lot of publicity and popularity from directing films such as ‘Little Miss Sunshine’; also recently they have directed the film ‘Ruby Sparks’ which wasn’t actually as popular and successful as Little Miss Sunshine.
On top of this this couple has also directed various music videos for well-known artists such as, Oasis, Red hot chilli peppers, Ramones and Britney Spears. Below is one of their many music videos which they have directed, Oasis 'All around the world':

Melina Matsoukas:

Melina Matsoukas is also a well-known director of music videos. In her time she has been very successful by winning a Grammy for directing the successful ‘We Found Love’ music video by Rihanna. This director has also magnificently directed videos for artists such as, Keri Hilson ‘Energy’, Beyoncé ‘Diva’, Ne-yo ‘Because of you’ and ‘Money Maker’ by Ludacris. Wolf Haley:

Tyler the Creators alter ego has helped produce a lot of mind blowing and imaginative music videos recently. One of Tyler’s creations this year was ‘Yonkers’ which became an instant hit which was full of horror, humour and aggression.
But in my opinion I find that Tyler’s best work was with ‘She’. This music video was very disturbing although at the same time very creative. Tyler’s style is still pretty raw and imaginative and raw but I find that he’s still evolving as he’s a new director and not as successfully known as others. In one of his videos which I have already mentioned being ‘Yonkers’ he only uses two shots throughout the whole of the video which doesn’t have much editing also which is one reason why I find it so effective. Another reason why I like his work in this video is because he uses a lot of out of focus shots which makes it look very artistic. Below is Tyler's work in his video 'She':

Marc Klasfeld:

Marc Klasfeld is also another American music video director. Klasfeld is a very popular within the directing industry as he has created over two hundred music videos. Some of the well-known artists which he has created videos for include Britney Spears, Perry, Jay, Kid Rock, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Buble', Nelly, Foo Fighters, Jewel, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, Aerosmith and many others.
One of his main successes this year was Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’’ which combined 80’s with Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ track. I really like his style as it’s very remember able and outgoing. My first thought when I found out I was creating a music video was an idea similar to ‘Last Friday Night’ which is why I would analyse his style as I really like the way he combines different genres. Spike Jonze:

Spike Jonze is also American director who of which isn’t only a director but also a producer, screenwriter and actor. His work includes music videos, commercials and films. Jonze has recently only created two videos, which include ‘Beastie Boys’ “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s ‘Otis’.
Spike Jonze has also produced music videos for artists such as Daft Punk, Fat boy slim, Ludacris and Kayne West. Below is the music video he directed for the Beastie Boys’ “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win:
